Why can floor protective film provide buffering protection?

Update:05 Sep 2024

Floor protective film is a professional protective material with functions such as anti-scratch, anti-dust, and anti-fouling. It can also provide effective buffering protection during decoration, construction, and transportation. Its existence can effectively reduce the damage to the floor surface when objects collide or heavy objects are dragged, and keep the floor intact and beautiful. The specific mechanism of its buffering protection will be discussed below.

1. Material and structure of floor protective film
The core function of floor protective film is its material and structural design. Floor protective film is made of plastic materials such as high-density polyethylene (HDPE), polypropylene (PP) or polyvinyl chloride (PVC). These materials have good toughness and compression resistance and can effectively absorb external pressure.
Base layer: The base layer of the protective film is generally made of high-strength plastic and can withstand certain stretching and pressure. This material can play a certain buffering role when it is pressed or hit by heavy objects, reducing the direct effect of external forces on the floor.
Buffer layer: Some advanced floor protective films are designed with a buffer layer inside. This layer of material usually uses foaming materials such as EVA (ethylene-vinyl acetate copolymer) or foamed polyethylene. The foam material has good elasticity and shock absorption properties, which can effectively absorb and disperse pressure, and avoid dents or damage to the floor caused by heavy objects falling or hitting.
Surface layer: In order to increase the protective performance of the protective film, a layer of anti-wear and waterproof coating is usually added to the surface layer. This can prevent the floor from being damaged by friction when it is under force, and can also prevent liquid penetration, providing multiple protection for the floor.

2. Working principle of buffer protection
The buffer protection principle of the floor protective film is mainly reflected in its absorption and dispersion of impact force. Whether it is dragging furniture or carrying heavy objects, the floor protective film can play a buffering role in the following ways.
Absorbing impact force: When an object falls from a certain height, a strong impact force will be generated at the moment of direct contact with the floor. This impact force can easily leave dents on the floor or even cause damage to the floor. The tough material and buffer layer of the floor protective film can absorb this part of the impact force and reduce the direct impact on the floor. This is because the molecular structure inside the material will undergo a slight displacement when it is impacted, thereby absorbing part of the energy.
Dispersing pressure: The floor protective film can disperse the pressure applied to a local area to a larger area. For example, when a heavy object is pressed on the floor, if there is no protective film, the pressure will be concentrated at one point, which may cause the floor to dent or crack. The multi-layer structure of the protective film can spread this pressure and distribute it to a larger area, reducing the damage to the floor caused by local stress.
Prevent friction damage: During construction or transportation, furniture, tools or equipment may move on the floor, causing friction and leaving scratches. The smooth surface of the floor protective film can reduce the friction coefficient, making it less likely for objects to generate excessive friction when sliding on the floor, thereby effectively avoiding scratching the floor surface. At the same time, the anti-slip function of the protective film can keep the object stable and avoid wear caused by sliding too fast.
Provide buffer space: The thickness of the floor protective film can also provide a certain buffer space in some cases. Especially when using foam material as the middle layer, this elastic structure can provide a larger buffer distance, and when the object contacts the floor, it can reduce the impact effect by delaying the transmission of force.

The buffer protection function of the floor protective film effectively protects the floor from damage by absorbing and dispersing external impact forces. Its multi-layer structure design and high-quality materials ensure that it can provide reliable protection in various construction, transportation and other scenarios. Reasonable selection of floor protective film with suitable material and thickness can significantly extend the service life of the floor while reducing maintenance costs.
